Boy Killed in Dirt Bike Accident

PIClaim

A thirteen year old boy was killed and his fourteen year old friend was seriously injured in a dirt bike accident with another vehicle in Loxahatchee. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported that the fatal crash occurred around 1:40 p.m. on January 13. According to the police, the accident happened at West Sycamore Drive and 185th Trail North in Loxahatchee. The report states that thirteen year old Carter Kerr was illegally driving a 2018 Honda dirt bike on the southern sidewalk of Sycamore Drive at the same time that a 2017 Ford Expedition had stopped at a stop sign on 185th Trail North.

The driver of the Ford Expedition pulled forward to check for oncoming traffic when Kerr drove off of the sidewalk on the dirt bike and into the Expedition’s path. Both Kerr and his passenger, fourteen year old Trevor Lake of Loxahatchee, were ejected from the dirt bike. Kerr died of his injuries at the scene of the accident, and Lake was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. The driver of the Ford Expedition only suffered minor injuries.

Kerr lived with his father and stepmother in Loxahatchee, where he attended Osceola Creek Middle School.

Motorcycle and Dirt Bike Accidents

Accidents involving motorcycles, dirt bikes, and other motorized bikes can be devastating for the drivers and their passengers when they are struck by another vehicle. Because of the lack of protection these vehicles provide for their riders, the injuries inflicted in an accident are often severe and permanent. In many cases, the accident results in death for the driver or passenger of a motorcycle or other motorized bike.

Injuries stemming from these types of accidents can be permanently debilitating and life altering for the victims. Some of the most common injuries for motorcyclists and other victims involved in motorized bike accidents includes head injuries, traumatic brain injuries, face trauma, neck injuries, bulging or herniated discs, broken bones, chest and abdomen injuries, internal organ damage, burns, road rash, and lacerations, amputated limbs, spinal cord damage, paralysis, and death. Rehabilitation and therapy for these injuries can take months or years, and even then some injuries are too severe to fully recover from. You need an experienced personal injury attorney to help you manage the legal case for compensation following a motorized bike accident to ensure that you are receiving the best possible compensation for your case.

Compensation for motorized bike victims can help cover the costs of current and future medical care, property damage, and lost wages. It also pays for the pain and suffering, emotional distress, disfigurement, disability, and loss of enjoyment of life that the injuries caused by this type of accident can cause for the victim.
