Heartburn Medication ‘Zantac’ Has Been Linked to Several Forms of Cancer

Zantac is a brand name version of the heartburn medication ‘ranitidine’. In the fall of 2019, federal regulators notified manufacturers, medical professionals, and consumers that ranitidine contained alarmingly high levels of a substance called nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA)—a known carcinogen that has been linked to several forms of cancer, including:

  • Small intestine cancer;
  • Stomach cancer;
  • Liver cancer;
  • Colon cancer;
  • Esophagus cancer; and
  • Bladder cancer.

Initially, regulators recommended voluntary recalls of Zantac and similar products. However, as more information has come out, research continues to find that ranitidine poses a very serious risk to public health. On April 1st, 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) publicly requested all drug manufacturers to withdraw prescription/over-the-counter (OTC) ranitidine medications from the market as soon as possible—including Zantac.

Questions are being raised about what the major pharmaceutical companies knew and when they knew it. Additional research on the extreme, cancer-causing dangers of Zantac is still being published. We are keeping a close watch on all updates.

What Compensation is Available Through a Zantac Lawsuit?

If a person can establish a connection between their use of Zantac and the development of cancer, they may be entitled to financial compensation for the full extent of their economic and non economic damages. Dangerous and defective medication claims are deeply complex. At Gary Roberts & Associates, our West Palm Beach Zantac attorneys know how to hold negligent pharmaceutical companies liable and get our clients full financial compensation. Depending on the specific nature of your claim, you may be eligible to recover compensation for:

  • Medical bills & related expenses;
  • Likely future medical care;
  • Physical therapy or rehabilitative treatment;
  • Lost wages and diminished earning potential;
  • Pain and suffering;
  • Permanent scarring/impairments; and
  • Wrongful death damages.

Every defective medication claim is unique. We are committed to providing personalized, focused representation to victims and their families. Unfortunately, large drug manufacturers are not eager to pay out claims to victims.
