Please Support the Amy and Vicky Child Pornography Victim Restitution Improvement Act of 2015
Please see the note below I received from James R. Marsh, Marsh Law Firm PLLC.
I’m pleased to announce that last week, Senator Hatch re-introduced the Amy and Vicky Child Pornography Victim Restitution Improvement Act. Congressman Matt Cartwright introduced the House version on the same day. This bill is the exact same bill which was introduced last year right after the Supreme Court’s disappointing decision in the Paroline case.
I know many of you are familiar with our work and the work of NCVBA member Carol Hepburn, Paul Cassell, and others who have started handling these cases. The NCVC / NCVBA endorses this legislation along with a host of other organizations including the National Crime Victim Law Institute, the National Organization for Victim Assistance, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. NCVBA was instrumental in filing one of the leading amicus briefs in Paroline. NCVC filed their own influential amicus brief also supporting Amy and Vicky.
The AVA currently enjoys strong bi-partisan support in both the Senate and the House. There are 36 Senate co-sponsors, 19 Republicans and 17 Democrats. There are 52 House co-sponsors, 31 Democrats and 21 Republicans. All together that’s 40 Republicans and 48 Democrats which is about as bi-partisan a bill as Washington has seen in a long time!
There are, however, some missing key Senators and we need your help reaching out to them. They are:
Senator Debbie Stabenow [D-MI]
Senator Gary C. Peters [D-MI]
Senator Barbara Boxer [D-CA]
Senator Bill Nelson [D-FL]
Senator Ted Cruz [R-TX]
Senator Jack Reed [D-RI]
Senator Jeff Flake [R-AZ]
Please visit this convenient page on our site where you can find contact information for each of these senators along with a suggested letter of support.
Thank you for your help. Please contact me, Susan Ramsey, if you have any questions.
